Mud Wizard Bob

Mud Wizard Bob

Sleeping Darkness — Book One · George D. Beard

A British-humoured LitRPG about an underpowered wizard, an unimpressed universe, and a very good dog.

Book One complete · 73 chapters · LitRPG comedy

This is genuinely one of the most interesting LitRPG stories I've read.

Cover of Mud Wizard Bob: Sleeping Darkness (Book One): Bob reads in an armchair on the mud plains while George the golden retriever sleeps beside him
Bob Brown's day was already terrible before the universe ended it. One minute he's soaking in the bath after a catastrophic day of QA engineering; the next, a cheerful blue box is welcoming him to the System Initiation — a survival gauntlet with levels, classes, and death lurking behind every menu. Bob's class? Mud Wizard. His build? Questionable. His plan? Survive the apocalypse, out-bluff monsters and magical thugs alike, and get home to his golden retriever, George. For readers who like their apocalypses absurd, their protagonists underpowered, and their dogs very, very good.

This is genuinely one of the most interesting LitRPG stories I've read.

Reader review
  • Wry humour, novelty abound, and the constant, ticking pressure of apocalyptic proportions. What's not to love?

    Early reader

  • With all seriousness and wry humor of Monty Python.

    Reader review of Book One

  • I feel a good PG Wodehouse vibe so far — I remember cackling similarly for Bertie.
